#Background: A Man in the Political Sea
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro officially belongs to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the ruling party under the Kenya Kwanza alliance led by President William Ruto.
However, his relationship with the party has deteriorated sharply. On January 14, 2026, Nyoro told Citizen TV that he was "totally disappointed" with UDA, accusing it of breaking key campaign promises on public borrowing, education funding, and political tolerance.
Following the October 2024 impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Nyoro chose to distance himself from the Kenya Kwanza fold. This strained his relations within the ruling coalition, and he was subsequently ousted as Chairperson of the influential National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee a seat that went to Samuel Atandi, a close ally of Raila Odinga.

#The Mt Kenya Landscape Shifts
The political ground beneath Nyoro's feet is moving fast. #Where Nyoro May Be Heading
The two realistic options before Nyoro remain DCP and Linda Mwananchi — and crucially, these two formations are themselves converging rather than competing. The ethnic and regional logic of Kenyan politics narrows his options significantly. Joining Fred Matiang'i's Jubilee-backed formation, while theoretically possible, makes little strategic sense at this stage: Nyoro would need to first consolidate his Mt Kenya base before venturing into cross-regional alliances.
The Kang'ata precedent is instructive. Kang'ata described Linda Mwananchi not as a political party but as a movement — "like the free market of Kenyan politics, where there are no barriers to entry or exit."
This flexible structure could appeal to Nyoro, allowing him to associate without fully surrendering his autonomy.
However, the stronger signal is that Nyoro may be watching for the DCP-Linda Mwananchi merger that many leaders are pushing for — and then positioning himself within that combined front as a presidential or gubernatorial contender. There is already speculation, raised by former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba on March 20, 2026, that Nyoro may eye the Nairobi governorship seat in 2027.
#Conclusion
Ndindi Nyoro is a politician playing the long game with considerable skill. His delay is not indecision, it is strategy. With Linda Mwananchi and DCP on a trajectory toward merger, and Mt Kenya increasingly restless under Ruto, Nyoro's next move will likely come within his own self-declared window of three to four weeks from today. When he speaks, he will almost certainly land within the anti-Ruto coalition, the only open question being whether he enters through Gachagua's DCP door or Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi tent. It is however without doubt that he may follow the foot steps of Irungu Kang'atha, Given the regional political gravity pulling prominent Mt Kenya politicians toward both formations simultaneously, the distinction may not matter much by the time the 2027 race formally begins.
